Does a will need to be notarized in Canada?
Most standard witnessed wills do not require notarisation for validity. Notaries and lawyers still add value when affidavits, certified copies, or foreign institutions demand extra assurance.
Separate rules apply to some POA forms and land-related paperwork; do not assume one rule covers every document.
If a bank insists on a notarial copy, that is an institutional policy, not necessarily the statute speaking.
